Aim

Test and develop the ability of the team to play forward at maximum speed, using a target player at each end. The target player links the attack: receives the ball, lays it off and lets the joining players get to a quick finish.

How it runs

The game demands quick decisions, sharp runs in behind and many intense actions: sprints, changes of direction and runs to join the attack.

Setup

  1. Pitch size: 20 x 15 meters
  2. Two mini goals at each end
  3. A target player at each end (the goalkeeper), who plays with both teams as support
  4. Two equal teams, plus a neutral player (joker)

Coaching points

  • Think forward: look for the pass in behind as early as possible
  • Quick decisions, with as few touches as possible
  • Use the target player well: pass to the target, then move straight away
  • High tempo and intensity, with many sprints and fast reactions
  • Transition from defense to attack: react at once after the ball is won or lost
